Boom Guide Bushings are cylindrical wear-resistant components fitted at telescopic boom articulated and sliding joints of construction machinery.

Materials of Guide Bushings

Three materials we often produce:
- 45# (C1045/1.0503): an economy forging carbon steel for boom guide bushings, cost friendly for light-load construction machinery and small boom
- 40Cr (5140/1.7035): medium-carbon chromium alloy steel, more wear-resistant than 45# and cheaper than 42CrMo, preferred for medium and small load equipment
- 42CrMo (4140/1.7225): high-performance chromium-molybdenum alloy steel with superior hardenability, impact resistance and abrasion resistance. Best for bad working conditions, e.g. high load, impact, and mining

Questions You May Have
Q: Why is induction quenching only done on the inner hole instead of the whole bushing?
A: It aims to form a controlled-depth hardened layer to resist sliding or rotating friction on the inner hole surface, at the same time keep the bushing core with good toughness, which avoids cracking and fracture under frequent boom impact loads. If the entire bushing is fully hardened, the bushing will become brittle and easy to break during operation.
Q: What hardness and hardened layer depth can you achieve after induction quenching?
A: HRC 48–56, we can adjust the hardness and hardened layer depth according to requirements.
