What role does the cast iron water pump baseplay in a pump set?

The cast iron water pump base is not only a support component bearing the weight of the pump, but also a common installation reference for both the pump and motor. The structure and processing quality of the base affect the assembly efficiency and long-term operating condition of the pump set.

Material Introduction

Our cast iron water pump bases are generally made of gray cast iron and ductile iron, conforming to standards such as GB/T 9439 (Chinese Standard), ISO 185 (International Standard), and ASTM A536 (American Standard). Since these standards do not specify particular chemical compositions, they primarily classify materials based on tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation. Therefore, during production, you can tell us the type of pump you are using, and we will recommend the most suitable material.

Why does a cast iron water pump base need stress relief treatment?

Have you ever encountered a base that warps slightly or changes in size after long-term use? This is because inferior products do not undergo stress relief treatment after rough machining, resulting in inconsistencies in wall thickness, heat dissipation rate, and shrinkage during casting and cooling, especially at thick-walled joints where significant temperature differences occur, leaving residual stress in the internal structure. So, what problems can stress relief after rough machining of castings generally reduce?

1. Reduce post-machining deformation: CNC machining removes surface material from the casting, altering the original stress balance and releasing residual stress in advance.

2. Maintain long-term stability of the mounting surface: A stable mounting surface helps maintain the pump and motor's installation position, reducing the frequency of warping after a period of operation.

3. Reduce the risk of localized cracking: When residual stress is superimposed on pump load, bolt preload, and operating vibration, stress concentration is more likely to occur at the junction of thick and thin sections and sharp corners. Therefore, proper stress relief can reduce the risk of localized cracking.
