Application of Forged Brass Parts
- Pipeline: this is the main application. Brass has excellent corrosion resistance and sealing performance, lots of pipeline products like valve, pipe fittings, joints and connectors use brass as main material.
- Automotive: brass forgings play an important role in automotive industry such engineer components, brake system, suspension system and electrical connectors.
- Electronics and Electrical: with good conductivity, brass is also ideal for electronics and electrical products, including electrical connectors, terminals, busbars, and switchgear.
- Marine Engineering: brass forged ship components, oil platforms, monitoring platforms and offshore buildings
- Mechanical Transmission & Wear-Resistant Components: brass sleeves and brass bushings that are used for motors, reducers, pumps, fans, metallurgical equipment and marine machinery.

Price for Forged Brass Parts
Different brass forgings have different prices.
Check the following aspects, to know the estimated price for your brass forged components:
Raw Material
Brass material price is higher than aluminum and steel, and lower than bronze and copper.
Raw Material Price = Brass kg price x unit forging blank weight x (1+ process loss rate)
Note:
1. Forging blank weight ≠ Finished forgings' weight. Forging blank weight = finished part weight + weight of machining allowance + other processing allowances such as sawing, grinding, etc.
2. Process loss rate: 5%~12%, depending on the size and structure of forgings. Smaller or complex irregular parts have higher loss rates.
Forging Process
Cold forging or hot forging. Cold forging has higher equipment requirement, its price is higher than hot forging.
Structural Complexity: Simple parts like bars, blocks, flanges, have lower price; Complex parts like gears, connectors need multiple processes, have higher price.
Tolerance
Higher tolerance will increase production difficulty and forgings' pass rate, it also requires equipment with higher precision, so cost of high tolerance forgings will be higher.
Order Quantity
The more ordered, the lower unit price.
Surface Treatment
Reference Price Scope of Forged Brass Parts:
Simple Small Brass Forgings (order quantity ≥100 pcs): 5~50$/pc
Medium Complex Brass Forgings (order quantity ≥50 pcs): 50~100$/pc
Large Precision Brass Forgings (unit finished weight≥30kg, order quantity ≥10 pcs): ≥200$/pc

Principle of Brass Forging Process
Brass forging is a shaping processing method that causes plastic deformation of brass material by applying pressure. It is aimed at obtaining desired shape and properties, fine grain and improved mechanical properties, and higher strength and toughness.
Main forging methods include:
Hammer Forging (or Free Forging)
- Only use simple tools, no tool cost or low tool cost, suitable for simple, large parts
- Low precision, need larger machining allowance, blank weight will be higher than other forging methods
Die Forging (Die-Forge or Drop Forging)
- Special tool designed and made for forging parts, suitable for complex shaped parts
- Higher precision, smaller machining allowance, higher efficiency, first choice for large-scale production
- Including open die forging and closed die forging
Ring Rolling
- Special process for ring-shaped parts, roll extrusion causes continuous plastic deformation of the brass blank, precisely forming seamless ring-shaped forgings
- Ring rolling is compatible with brass sleeves, brass flanges, annular bearing shells, sealing rings and other rotary brass forgings, perfectly matching the requirements of mechanical transmission wear-resistant parts.
- Uniform thickness, fine grain, superior mechanical properties far exceed cast ring-shaped parts, excellent coaxiality
- Large-diameter, thin-walled brass ring-shaped parts are available, high material utilization rate
